Bishop Vladimir Fekete: The Transfiguration of the Lord is a sign of eternal life
On the 1st of March, the Second Sunday of Lent, the Apostolic Prefect of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, Bishop Vladimir Fekete, celebrated Holy Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was concelebrated by the General Vicar, Fr. Jozef Marek.
In his homily, Bishop Vladimir drew the faithful’s attention to the figure of Abraham, presented in Sacred Scripture as the father of all believers. He emphasized that the patriarch’s life is an example of unconditional trust in God — a trust that prompts a person to leave behind what is familiar and set out on a journey of faith, guided solely by the voice of the Lord.
Turning to the Gospel reading on the Transfiguration of the Lord, Bishop Vladimir underlined the profound connection between this event and the Lenten season. The Transfiguration, which revealed Christ’s glory to the disciples on Mount Tabor, he described as “a sign of eternal life,” to which God calls every person. According to the Bishop, the light radiating from the transfigured Face of the Savior reminds the faithful of the ultimate goal of their spiritual journey — participation in divine glory.
The Bishop also noted that the Transfiguration strengthened the Apostles before the coming trials of Christ’s Passion, just as today the light of hope is granted to the faithful amid difficulties and trials.
