BISHOP VLADIMIR FEKETE IS ON VISIT TO KARAGANDA (KAZAKHSTAN)
The Apostolic Prefect of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, Bishop Vladimir Fekete, is on a visit to the Karaganda Diocese of the Catholic Church in Kazakhstan, where a working meeting of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Central Asia (CCBCA) is taking place. The Bishops and Ordinaries of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan, as well as the Apostolic Prefect of Mongolia, Cardinal George Marengo participate in the work of the Conference.
As an ecclesiastical institution, Bishops’ Conferences developed in the Catholic Church after the Second Vatican Council (1962-65). The Fathers of the Council considered it “highly expedient that bishops from the same country or region form one group, meeting together at fixed dates, so that through the exchange of opinions, experiences and advice, a holy cooperation for the common good of the Churches is formed” (Decree of Christus Dominus , 37).
The Chairman of the CCBCA is Bishop José-Luis Mumbiela Sierra, Ordinary of the Diocese of the Holy Trinity in Almaty.
The Apostolic Prefecture of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, represented by the head of the Prefecture, Bishop Vladimir Fekete, became part of the CCBCA in 2022.
