BISHOP VLADIMIR FEKETE TOOK PART IN THE FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR BISHOP WOLFGANG WEIDER

The Apostolic Prefect of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, Bishop Vladimir Fekete, took part in the farewell ceremony for the “emeritus” auxiliary bishop of the Berlin Archdiocese, the titular bishop of Uzita Wolfgang Weider.

Wolfgang Weider was born on October 29, 1932 in Berlin and was ordained a priest on December 21, 1957 by Cardinal Julius Döpfner.

On 13 February 1982, the Holy Father Pope John Paul II appointed him as Titular Bishop of Uzita and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Berlin. His episcopal motto was the Gospel words of the Blessed Virgin Mary: “Quod dixerit vobis – facite” – “What He tells you, do it” (John 2, 5).

On January 30, 1983, Bishop Wolfgang Weider performed the ordination of a young Salesian monk from Slovakia, Vladimir Fekete.

Bishop Wolfgang Weider died on February 14, 2024 at the age of 91.

The Funeral Holy Mass in the Berlin Cathedral of the Most Holy Body of Christ was celebrated by Archbishop of Berlin Heiner Koch, co-celebrated by the diocesan clergy, as well as the Apostolic Prefect of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, Bishop Vladimir Fekete.
