BISHOP VLADIMIR FEKETE PARTICIPATED IN AN EVENT COMMEMORATING THE TRAGEDY OF KHOJALY
A commemorative event dedicated to the tragedy that occurred on 26 February 1992 in the Azerbaijani city of Khojaly during the First Karabakh War was held at the Caucasus Muslim Board. The Apostolic Prefect of the Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, Bishop Vladimir Fekete, took part in the event.
“Every year we gather to honor the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy, which deeply wounded the Azerbaijani people. Thirty-four years have passed, yet the pain remains alive in the hearts of many. This year, this sorrowful date coincided with the season of fasting and repentance, into which, by the mysterious Providence of God, Muslims and Christians entered simultaneously. In this we see a special symbolism and at the same time a call to us as people of faith: to pray together and to offer our fasting for the repose of the deceased, for the healing of the heart wounds of those who lost their loved ones on that terrible night, and also for politicians and all those who exert significant influence on public sentiment. For tragedies such as Khojaly do not occur suddenly: they become the bitter fruit of hearts deprived of the fear of God. May the Almighty heal these wounds, bring consolation and peace to those who suffered, and bless the people of Azerbaijan,” Bishop Vladimir noted in his address.
