On November the 8th Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of Victory in the 44-day Patriotic War for the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity. On this day, in all parishes of the Apostolic Prefecture of Azerbaijan, the Holy Masses will be dedicated to the thanksgiving for the end of the war, the return of the occupied lands and for peace in our country and throughout the South Caucasus. The Church in Azerbaijan will also offer prayers for the repose of the souls of all our fallen soldiers, for the victims among the civilian population, for the consolation of grieving families and for the health of all veterans.
On November 9th the Church celebrates the Consecration of the Lateran Basilica. This holiday recalls the day of consecration on November 9, 324 of the basilica in honor of the Most Holy Savior, built by Emperor Constantine. Since a baptistery dedicated to St. John the Baptist was built near the basilica, he became the second patron of the basilica. The Lateran Basilica was a center of the life of the Church for a thousand years. It hosted many Roman synods and five Ecumenical Councils. Although the Vatican became the residence of the pope, the Lateran Basilica remains the cathedral church of Rome, it is called the Mother and head of all the churches of the City and the world.
