In his speech Bishop Vladimir Fekete noted that “…In Azerbaijan, by the political will of Heydar Aliyev, humanitarian issues were declared a priority and came under the direct attention and care of the state. The cultural traditions of the people began to be revived, churches of traditional faiths destroyed during the Soviet years were restored, religious organizations were provided with support at the state level to revive their spiritual structures. Catholics of Azerbaijan always remember that it was on the initiative of Heydar Aliyev that the Catholic Church restored its historical presence on this land…”.
